Know the rules before you roll.
Whether you ride, roll or skate across campus, Mizzou welcomes alternative transportation, but safety and responsibility come first. Please review the following rules before bringing your bicycle, scooter, e-bike (Class 1, 2 and 3), moped, skateboard or skates to campus.

You’re welcome to skate but there are restrictions for everyone’s safety and for the protection of university property.
Skating is not allowed on:
- MU Student Center Mall
- Lowry Mall
- Speakers Circle (west side of the Ellis Library)
- North and south sides of Jesse Hall
- Inside any university building
- In any parking structure
- On steps, benches, handrails, walls or landscaped areas
Skaters must:
- Yield to pedestrians and vehicles at all times.
- Keep wheels on the ground. No stunts or tricks allowed.
- Use sidewalks responsibly and with caution.
Skating in prohibited areas or performing tricks may result in equipment being impounded for up to five days.
Registration is required.
All bicycles, mopeds (under 50cc) and scooters used on campus must be registered with MU Police. It’s free and easy:
- Register online through the City of Columbia
- Pick up your sticker at MU Police Department in the Virginia Avenue Parking Structure
- Your registration is valid for the lifetime of the bike or moped
Always park at designated bike racks. Improperly parked or abandoned bikes and scooters may be ticketed or impounded, even if it means cutting the lock.
Do not chain to:
- Trees
- Lampposts
- Benches
- Railings
- Fences
- Accessibility ramps or entrances
Do not park:
- Inside university buildings (unless approved in MU Housing residence halls)
- On lawns or sidewalks
- In entrances or ramps
Motorized vehicles (including scooters and mopeds) are not allowed inside any building, including residence halls.
