Priority access for students advancing their fields.

Graduate and professional students can purchase permits to park on campus. Permits are sold first come, first served, based on availability. Graduate and professional student permits receive higher priority than undergraduate permits. You’ll pick your parking based on the tier that best fits your academic program, budget and commute. Parking permits are assigned by location to help keep things running smoothly and ensure there’s space for everyone.

Just a heads up: Your permit only gives you access to your assigned lot or structure not to all parking locations in the same tier.

**Student permits run for five months in the fall and spring semesters, and two months in the summer. Fall is Aug.1-Dec. 31; spring Jan. 1-May 31; and summer June 1-July 31.  

Purchasing a Permit

Fall permits are valid from Aug. 1 through Dec. 31; spring permits Jan. 1-May 31; and summer June 1-July 31.

Purchasing of fall permits begins at 9 a.m. on your priority date listed below.

Tip: Avoid creating a visitor account. Also, when entering your license plate information into your parking account, pay attention to similar characters like numbers 0/1 and letters O/I. Missouri plates only use 0 (zeros) and 1 (one).

Professional Student Permits

Professional students in these programs purchase a permit from their parking account on a predetermined date (see chart below) before the fall semester:

Parking location options are based on Tier 1 or Tier 2 parking locations in proximity to your primary academic buildings. Tier 3 and Tier 4 options also are available.

Graduate Student Permits

Returning graduate students with a valid spring permit get first dibs on renewing for fall and may be able to renew their same location, if available, and renewal deadlines are met. Just keep an eye on your email inbox in early June for the application and make sure to submit it by the mid-June deadline. Can’t find an email? Email us at muparking@missouri.edu.

New to grad school or don’t have a permit? No problem. You can fill out the online grad application (spring permits are available in January; fall permits in early June). Permit assignments are based on availability across most tiered lots.

Permits are valid for the fall semester and are automatically renewed for the spring semester if a student meets qualifications:

No need to reapply midyear. Your permit will auto-renew unless you cancel. Charges will show up right on your student account.

Summer 2026 Permit Dates

Summer parking permits for all students can be purchased starting at 9 a.m. May 1 through your parking account. Summer permits are valid June 1 through July 31, and are sold on a first come, first served basis. Summer permits are not renewable for the fall.

Tier 1 locations are $126.
Tier 2 locations are $60.

Canceling a Permit

Permit holders will receive a reminder email before auto-renewal. You can cancel at that time using the instructions provided. To cancel at any other time:

Requests from non-university addresses will not be accepted.

Note: Removing or deactivating your vehicle from your permit does not cancel the permit. An email request is required.

Parking Notifications

Permit holders receive:

Email and text alerts for game day relocations, construction updates or lot changes
Citations for parking violations. Unpaid citations will place a hold on your account, blocking course registration.

To remove a hold, resolve or appeal the citation.

FAQs

Do I need a hang tag for my permit?

No. Your license plate is your permit. This system helps us keep costs lower by eliminating physical tags.

How do I find my assigned parking location?

Incoming students who live on campus are assigned parking based on their MU Housing assignment. Check our maps for locations. You can also log into your parking account for permit information.

What’s an a.m./p.m. permit and how do I request one?

Off-campus students working early or late shifts may qualify. Email muparking@missouri.edu with the subject line “a.m./p.m. Permit Request” and include your:

I’m having trouble buying a permit. What do I do?

Email muparking@missouri.edu with the subject “Trying to Buy a Permit” and let us know your name, class year and reason for purchasing outside regular periods.

How many vehicles can I have on one permit?

One vehicle is allowed per student permit. No exceptions.

Can I transfer or sell my permit?

No. That violates both our parking policy and the Mizzou Student Code of Conduct.

Do I need two license plates?

Missouri requires most vehicles registered in the state to have front and rear plates. Mizzou enforces this. For vehicles registered from other states, please abide by your state’s rules and regulations.

Please remember: Park your vehicle where the plates are visible from the drive aisle to avoid a citation.

What are closed campus barriers?

Between 8:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, these areas are closed to drive-through traffic:

Hitt Street (Memorial Union)
Conley Avenue (Jesse Hall)

Why are parking rates organized in tiers?

Parking rates are tiered based on demand. Lots and structures in higher-demand areas cost more, while lower-demand areas are more budget-friendly. This gives faculty, staff and students the flexibility to choose what works best for them — balancing location, cost and availability. Spots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, with faculty and staff getting first priority, followed by students.

How are parking permit fees used?

Permit fees go right back into keeping our parking system running. That includes maintenance, upgrades and paying off construction bonds for lots and garages. Mizzou Parking & Transportation is self-sustaining — meaning we don’t get university funding — so every dollar collected from permits supports operations and future improvements.
