Know the rules. Keep your privileges. All students who drive and park on campus are responsible for following Mizzou’s parking and traffic regulations. Failure to do so could result in disciplinary action including loss of parking privileges.
Parking & Transportation, along with the MU Police Department, works to ensure campus remains accessible and safe for all. Here’s what students need to know:
Student parking spaces are restricted to permit holders with a valid student parking permission. These spaces are under the authority of Parking & Transportation.
Key regulations include:
- Students may register only one vehicle at a time.
- Transferring a permit to someone else is not allowed.
- Giving false information or altering a license plate is a serious violation.
- Parking permissions are issued upon payment of a published fee.
- Student permits are valid only for the designated lots or structures assigned to them.
- Continued use of a student permit is contingent on following all university and state vehicle regulations.
Apartment parking is managed in partnership with MU Housing and subject to the same campus-wide traffic and parking rules.
If your assigned lot is near Memorial Stadium or Mizzou Arena, you may need to relocate temporarily for home football games or weekday men’s home basketball games.

Mizzou uses License Plate Recognition (LPR) to manage and enforce parking. This means:
- Your license plate is your permit. No decals or hang-tags required.
- All permissions are issued virtually.
- Citations are emailed, not placed on your windshield (you may see a notice on your window only if your vehicle has multiple unpaid violations or is not linked to an active account).
- Your license plate must be visible from the driving aisle.
- Plates must be mounted horizontally and at least 12 inches from the ground.
- Tow hitches must be removed when not in use.
- No plate covers or objects that block the visibility of the numbers and letters.
- Keep your vehicle information updated in your parking account.
Health-related parking permissions may be granted on an individual basis. You may be asked to provide documentation from a licensed health care provider before approval. Learn more from the Office of Accessibility and ADA.
Employees must register their vehicle on or before the date they begin parking on campus.
